We asked Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect, and the founder of LS Projects - for her tips on how to select the right one. We looked at the capacity of storage, layout, and energy efficiency, among other features.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As the name suggests, the GE Profile series is geared towards those who want to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them all from a Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive and I expected more.

This refrigerator is a good choice, despite the small blip. It has a huge freezer compartment, which is unusual for counter-depth french door fridge freezer with plumbed water and ice dispenser-door fridges. It also has a large capacity for frozen food compared to other models.

Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is roughly on what you would expect from an French door fridge costing this much. The bins for storage inside come with a third shelf that can be folded down to store tall objects. The drawers have temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The Bosch French-door Refrigerator is a stunning piece of equipment. It's designed to appear like it's a seamless part in your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a vegetable compartment which keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer, and two compressors to preserve food. The Ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient and produces the shape of a pyramid using only water. This refrigerator is the ideal option for a single family or kitchenettes that want a built-in look and top-of-the-line food preservation.

This fridge was rated the most efficient in our Refrigerators Test for a variety of reasons. Its freezer temperatures remained constant at just above 0°F and never fluctuated more than a tiny fraction - this is crucial to prevent freezer burn. The fridge's fridge section also performed well, achieving the desired initial set temperature within an hour and maintaining the temperature constant over the course of our tests.

Bosch is a household name known for its top-quality appliances. Therefore, it's no surprise that Bosch's counter depth fridge Bosch counter depth refrigerator can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's Home Connect. This app lets you monitor and control your fridge from your tablet or smartphone. The fridge is expensive, however it has top-quality features and functions for the cost.

It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The top shelf on the right can be folded down to make space for taller items. There's also a full-width drawer to store products from the deli and an inside water dispenser.

The freezer is designed with thoughtful elements, too, like sliding drawers that help better organize the position of items. It also has a large container to store frozen food items, and a separate bin for ice.

Smart InstaView panel is a cool feature of the refrigerator. It lets you control the temperature of your fridge and lighting using your smartphone. It's a simple method to monitor your refrigerator and control it, particularly when you're not at home.

But while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't necessarily improve the overall performance of the refrigerator. The refrigerator took longer to chill food and defrost it than the other fridges we test. This is probably due to its greater capacity.

Another issue with the doors of this refrigerator. The handles with a sunken design allow smaller people to open them from the bottom. However taller people will struggle to close them without slamming them. It would have been better if they came with a front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good choice for those who want to combine the advantages of a fridge with a French door with a more efficient layout. Its capacity is higher than average for counter-depth models and is able to cool evenly. It's also a bit cheaper than the best counter depth refrigerator with an ice maker, making it an attractive choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a good choice if you want a French-door refrigerator that doesn't cost a lot of budget. It's a simple fridge which may not be as attractive like some of its competitors however it has enough features to make it a good choice. Its most important feature, the adjustable temperature drawer, helps to keep food items such as meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge ice maker as well as a water dispenser.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you redirect a portion of the refrigerator's cooling power directly into this area, which means you can keep food items that require special attention. This feature can be adjusted by using a slider on the outside of the drawer. You can also alter the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I have found that the general settings work better than the specific ones.

During my tests, the temperature of the refrigerator were fairly constant across the different areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge didn't vary significantly from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. This is a great performance but does not quite make it to the top of our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also connect this fridge to a smart thermometer for more precise readings of the internal temperature of your fridge.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is made of grey-bodied stainless steel which has a "smudge-proof" finish. It repels fingerprints and streaks better than other stainless steel finishes I've seen.
